MORE THAN 650 FONTANA & ONTARIO TEAM MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN THE 2010 INLAND EMPIRE HEART WALK
More than 650 Kaiser Permanente Fontana and Ontario employees and their family members participated in the 5K Inland Empire Heart Walk on Saturday, September 18. Kaiser Permanente joined several dozen other area companies to help raise funds and awareness for the American Heart Association.
KP was by far the largest group – nearly triple the size of any other company walking in this year's Walk and the most the Fontana service area has ever had participate in any walk!
Kaiser Permanente staff members raised approximately $17,000 for the American Heart Association. The Heart Walk provides much-needed funding for research and education to combat the number one killer of Americans, cardiovascular disease.
KP’s Team Captains Eugene No and Don Bernard led the Fontana Medical Center team through the beautiful Heart Walk course at Fairmount Park in Riverside. Everyone on the KP team wore our blue thrive t-shirts, creating a sea of blue that dominated the walk.
Don Bernard, Assistant Hospital Administrator, Finance, stated, “The enthusiasm and dedication of our team is tremendous. Kaiser Permanente’s focus on wellness and prevention clearly shows through the efforts of our staff members who came out to walk.”
Added Eugene No, Assistant Medical Group Administrator, “Walking is one of the easiest ways to be more active and improve your health! Walking daily can give you more energy, reduce stress, help you manage your weight, and decreases your chance of developing chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Kaiser Permanente is proud to be out here to help spread that message.”
The Heart Walk is a non-competitive 5K walk and health festival. The event emphasizes the importance of walking as a heart healthy exercise while raising funds to help the American Heart Association in its fight against heart disease, the leasing cause of death among men and women. The family-friendly event included a health fair, music and special Kids’ Zone Activities.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Heart Walk!
