Walk with the Doc
Dr. Michael Moreno was concerned about his patient. Her weight was jeopardizing her health, yet his attempts to get her to exercise were always met with the same firm reply: "I just can't do it."
So Dr. Moreno made her a deal. "If you walk," he told her. "I'll walk with you."
That was all she needed -- true motivation and support. Dr. Moreno and his patient started walking a mile twice a week at 7:00 AM. He soon invited other patients and staff to join them and now anywhere from 10 to 60 people regularly show up to "Walk with the Doc."
Dr. Moreno is the first to admit it's not always easy to fit these early-morning walks into his busy schedule, but the results make it all worthwhile.
"I've seen a lot of blood sugars go down, people are losing weight, improving mobility and are happier," he says. "It's just great." He's especially thrilled that many people who've met each other during his walks, now meet at other times to walk on their own.
And Dr. Moreno's patient who refused to exercise? There's no stopping her now.
