KP Pasadena Marathon Draws 8,000 Participants

More than 8,000 participants ran, biked, and walked the Second Annual Pasadena Marathon presented by Kaiser Permanente on Sunday.

Beginning and ending at Pasadena City College, the marathon, half-marathon, bike tour, and 5K run/walk looped around the city passing by Old Pasadena and the Rose Bowl. And while there was a little rain, it wasn't the soaking event last year's inaugural marathon was.

An estimated 250 Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians donned red KP shirts for the event. Among them were Benjamin K. Chu, MD, MPH, president, KPSC, who rode the bike tour; and Jeffrey A. Weisz, MD, executive medical director, SCPMG, who participated in the 5K.

As a title sponsor of the Pasadena Marathon, Kaiser Permanente provided medical care for the event.

Making its debut at the Pasadena Marathon was a new 25-bed disaster medical tent purchased by KP’s Southern California Emergency Preparedness Committee with the support of regional leadership.

Use of the tent, which can expand to 1,700 square feet, will range from medical center emergencies to local and out-of-state disasters to regional events such as the KP Marathon and Kaiser Permanente Triathlon in October.
