Employee pilot program launches in 3 regions and Program Offices

What comes every year, brings joy and good tidings, and can leave a "present" around your waistline?

The holidays!

A National Institutes of Health 2000 study revealed that most Americans gain an average of one pound during the holidays and they usually don't lose it. Unfortunately, over time the weight adds up.

If every KP employee gained one pound this holiday season, that would add up to more than 160,000 pounds of weight gain!

To help you beat the odds this season, Healthy Workforce is bringing you "Maintain Don't Gain," an eight-week weight-maintenance program with advice, weekly challenges, tips, and resources to help you stay on track during the holidays.

KPSC, along with Colorado, Mid-Atlantic States, and Program Offices, is conducting the "Maintain Don't Gain" as a pilot program.

The Colorado Region first initiated the program in 2009 for KP employees to raise the awareness of holiday eating habits and weight gain. The goal was to maintain each participant's pre-holiday weight through the holiday season.

The majority of participants were able to maintain their weight throughout the program and some even lost weight. More than 90 percent of participants reported confidence that they would continue their strategies to maintain their weight after the program ended, and would also participate in a similar program if offered again.

Please register for the program. Once you sign up, you will receive weekly e-mails from November 14 through January 2.

You'll also receive a personal tracking sheet to record your progress throughout the program, as well as a pledge sheet to print and sign with friends and co-workers to help you thrive.

At the close of the program, you will be asked to enter your weight in again to see if you lost, gained, or maintained. Register today and do something good for yourself this holiday season!
