Triathlete Magazine Names KP Los Angeles Triathlon 'Best Urban Race'
The Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon was named the "Best Urban Race" among international triathlons in the March issue of Triathlete Magazine, the sports' leading publication.
The City of Los Angeles event, marking its 11-year anniversary, beat out major triathlons in Vancouver, Singapore, London, Miami, San Francisco, Pittsburg, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
"The Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon has grown beyond what we could have imagined at KP," said GetFit Program Director Andy Gallardo. "The fact that more than 800 physicians, employees, and Health Plan members participate tells us it is a great race and is very appealing to all levels. We hope to continue to grow the event and more importantly, show our workforce that anything is possible."
In listing Los Angeles' triathlon as the best urban race, the editors of Triathlete said, "This was a tough category in which to pick a winner. We decided to pick a winner that best handles the chaos of a metropolitan triathlon while still treating the athletes to a one-of-a-kind tour of a remarkable city. With this as our criteria, the Los Angeles Triathlon stood out from some worthy competition."
The 2010 Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon is October 3. It will start in the Pacific Ocean off Venice Beach and end at the L.A. Live campus in downtown Los Angeles. Last year the event drew 3,000 competitors, including 650 employees and physicians from KPSC.
