Orange County Celebrates the Conclusion of the 30-Day Challenge
Hundreds of Kaiser Permanente Orange County employees, physicians and families attended the Get Fit Festival and 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 5. It was a fun day for the entire family.
As part of our Lose 10 in 2010 campaign, many of you completed the Get Fit 30-day Fitness Challenge and were ready to tackle the physical challenge on June 5. Attendees participated in the Boot Camp hosted by Body Rehab, yoga taught by our own KP instructors, and, the 5K Run/Walk. Participants, some of them along with their dogs or part of a large group, ran the 5 kilometer course on the Irvine Medical Center Campus. Some of these large groups went as far as having t-shirts printed up for this event.
The 5K Run/Walk kicked off with stretches hosted by 24 Hour Fitness. Dr. Ed Ellison, Area Medical Director, then welcomed and wished everyone good luck before stressing how important it is for each one of us to take care of ourselves. And then they were off. Finishing Medals were handed to all KP participants at the end of the race.
Not only did the adults enjoy the benefits of this fitness day, the children had a blast too. Many of them participated in the 5K Run/Walk with their families, but most of them took advantage of the kids’ activities which included an inflatable obstacle course, bouncer, euro bungee and a rock wall where we saw children as well as adults making their way to the top.
It didn’t end there, the festival had a little something for everyone. The event’s vendors included 24 Hour Fitness, Body Rehab, LA Fitness, Panera Bread, Stafford Chiropratic Clinic, Weight Watchers, and our local farmers market. Panera Bread provided turkey sandwiches for all who attended. A few KP volunteers were also on hand to talk to about Healthy Workforce, kp.org, Angels Baseball and various health education classes available in the service area. We were fortunate to have the new KP Mobile Medical Van make a stop, with staff giving tours as well as health screenings.
KP attendees were also eligible to win various raffle prizes. Congratulations to Zirna Basilio, Physical Therapy, IMC, who won a Thrive bicycle.
Remember, our goal to Get Fit doesn’t end here. Continue the good work and encourage your co-workers to join you. Physical activity is one of the best things for your health. Stay tuned for more information on Orange County’s Fit Fridays.
